Geochemical Evaluation for the Hydrocarbon Potential of Source Rocks in Central Sirt Basin, (concession -59), case study, Libya

The Sirt Basin important oil producing area in Libya is one of the richest regions terms hydrocarbon resources. Exploration studies this have shown that oils are mixtures several charges and may be from different source rocks particularly upper Cretaceous sediments study based on organic geochemistry petrographic analysis carried out 179 cutting samples collected four wells. From Cenomanian to Eocene succession within central basin, main aim geochemical evaluation rocks, thermal maturation estimate other rock area. recorded values varied these wells formation another depending lithology, paleoenvironment tectonic events. Our results exposed that, total carbon (TOC) using Rock-Eval showed Shale considered most regard potential, since it was found reflect a high content 4.98 %. , ranging (average 2.61), type–II kerogen (oil prone) and, with Hydrogen index (HI) mostly below 500. Rachmat average HI = 176 (kerogen types II, III), Organic facies classified class B dominantly amorphous quality matter deposited anoxic marine environment. Maturity result Ro %, SCI, Tmax oC, Formations late immature early mature stages.
